Queenstown to Gibbston

An epic day trip that covers off some of the most sceninc areas of several bike trails.

This full day journey will take approximately 6 - 8 hours depending on your cruising speed so it’s best to pack a picnic and make a day of it. There’s majestic scenery, rushing rivers, picnic spots and access to the Gibbston Valley winemaking area so there’s also Pinot Noir!

Trail Notes

This ride has some nice flat easy sections as well as a few climbs but you’re rewarded each time with majestic distant mountain and ranges, (sometimes) placid lakes and sparkling rushing rivers. It’s a 40km easy to intermediate Grade 3 so it’s good for those looking to push past beginner rides or build endurance.

Starting at the Queenstown Gardens, continue on past Frankton Beach towards the Kawarau Falls Bridge, before the bridge crosses under the highway to connect with the Twin Rivers Trail.
Follow the trail down to the Kawarau River then towards the Shotover Delta. Make your way towards the old lower Shotover Bridge Shotover Bridge to Morven Ferry Road Cross the Old Lower Shotover Bridge and follow the trail to Old School Road, passing underneath State Highway6. The Twin Rivers Trail ends at Morven Ferry Road. Pick up the Arrow River Bridges Trail for a short period until you reach the Gibbston River Trail.
