Queenstown Loop

An intermediate circuit ride

LOCALS SAY

Like the name suggests, this ride is a circuit meaning that you can start and finish anywhere on the loop that you’d like. This 30km intermediate ride (Grade 3) is also a mix of surfaces and terrains. The loop takes you past ideal places to stop for refreshments or a munch, but there are also wild places where you can stop for a picnic amongst the natural beauty and wilderness scenery.

Trail Notes

Rivers and lakes and wilderness, Oh My! This ride offers up the best of the ‘Great Ride’ Trail points that are close to town. You’ll cross over high bridges and gorges and also hug the Shotover River (some great places for pictures of Otago scenery). You’ll also be close to cafes, bar and even breweries if you’re looking to make a day of it or reward yourself for your cycling efforts.

While you can start this loop anywhere, many people start it by departing Queenstown and heading for Arthurs Point.
Cross over Edith Cavil bridge and climb the hill. Pedal for another 500m or so until you see a turn off for Littles Road. Take the steep descent down the road and then turn off for the Lower Shotover Trail. Head down here until you see the Queenstown Trail sign for the start of the Lower Shotover Trail.

But wait, there's more...
